Re: How I got interested in the Apple ][...
I got into the Apple II sort of by accident...
I bought my first computer (an iMac) in 2000, after studiously avoiding
them for years. I really hadn't been around computers at all through the
80s and 90s, so the history of it was all new to me. In the shop where I
bought the iMac they had an old compact Mac on display and I thought it
was pretty cool so I started looking around second-hand stores to see if I
could find one.
After about a year I came across a IIc in a local thrift store... it was
stuffed into a box with a lot of tangled cables and the only thing visible
was the 9" monitor. I mistakenly assumed it was some kind of early Mac and
bought it.
When I unpacked/untangled it at home, I realized I'd come across something
quite different. Fortunately it came with a decent selection of software
and a few books on AppleSoft and within a few hours I was a "programmer".
That was very exciting, as I'd never before even entertained the idea of
programming a computer... I was instantly hooked.
Since then I've acquired about 25 assorted Apple II's and some cool
peripherals. I've also got a few compact Macs, but it turns out they're
nowhere near as much fun as the Apple II ;-)
