A T180 tape can hold 2 gigs of uncompressed data...


There was something like that for the amiga, able to backup floppies/
HD's to VHS tape.

How well it worked, I don't know.  I never trusted VHS to hold movies
decent, let alone data...

The usual scheme recorded the data doubly or triply redundant, so
it was more immune to dropouts.

This was in the days before sophisticated coding for error correction.
