Some people used cassette until disk drives came down in price. Apple's Disk II
drive had competition rather quickly - within months, several compatible drives
were available.
I remember that diskettes were (for me, just a kid at the time) very expensive,
but I can't say I ever came across a tape backup for floppies. It doesn't seem
very practical either... imagine the amount of time involved. Ack!
I cringe just thinking about it.
