Hi All, I've got my "new" IIgs (rom01) all setup and ready to go except for software. I have a Mac Classic II (with an internal 1.44mb drive) I was wondering if its okay to hook up one of my IIgs 800k drives to it. Will it format the disk to 800k and allow me to transfer files to the IIgs? Is there any chance of damaging the 800k drive or my Mac by hooking them up?
As far as I remember (I didn't have my classic II here), there is no floppy port on the Classic II. With a Mac Plus (up to the SE/30, or IIcx), you can connect your IIgs 3.5 drive without any problem. That's what I did, previous to my SCSI Card in my IIgs. But you can use your internal HD Drive to write 800k disk. It's not very reliable. I had a lot of error using the internal drive. You should format disk on the IIgs rather than on the Mac. More reliable.
You need an extension and Control Panel to be able to read and write on PRODOS disk. You can use Apple File Exchange, or PC Exchange.
