I'd just do a forever loop - skip the PR#0 bit at the end.  Hit ctrl-
reset when you're done.  That way you know the Apple is always
sending.

Do you have a solid understanding of the pinout of the header?  Do you
have a stock cable that came with the thing?  It will be important to
know if you need a null modem in the middle, etc.
