I wired up another adapter and plugged it into a II+. After doing the
usual chicanery to get a compatible version of ProDOS booted (and
inserting an 80 column card...) I got Pong working! So, something is
wonky in my IIgs.

Excellent!

BTW, though NadaPong assumes that the "master" machine is running
ProDOS, no assumption about the slave machine is made at all. It will
work fine on DOS.

The only interaction with the OS when NadaPong is running is the
PRINT CHR$(4)"PR#3" to set up for mousetext. If it did a "plain"
PR#3, then it would work fine on a bare (no OS) machine.

Now let's figure out what's wrong on tne IIgs side. Rmemeber that one
of the "no connection" pins on all other Apple II's is used on tne IIgs
for the newly invented PB3, and that pin needs to be cut off of the
adapter if it's used in a IIgs (though that shoudn't keep it from
working...).

It seems to be my TransWarp. I have another un-sped up IIgs. I
transplanted the the adapter over there, and it works fine. (I had
clipped the NC pin during assembly.) So I have three known good
adapters now. I just can't get one to work in the TransWarp'd
machine, now matter how I slow it down!

That's interesting. Nadanet makes a reference to $C0E8 (turn off
Disk ][ in slot 6) to slow down the machine for at least 30 milli-
seconds. With the Zip accelerators, this does the job. I would
expect the Transwarp to work similarly, but maybe it does something
else. (Is slot 6 set to "slow"?)

In any event, when the IIgs is set to "slow" in its control panel,
that should be respected by any accelerator. Nadanet works fine
for me on a IIgs in slow mode.

I do realize that the IIgs speed control is different, and usually
is controlled by bracketed "motor on" and "motor off" references
to slot 6--which NadaNet does not do. I could build a special
version(s) of NadaNet for the IIgs, but it pains me to do so.

BTW, I sent your "attglobal.net" address another message. Did
you receive it?

No, it's not here. I'll send you another ID to try.
