I'm planning to install a LocalTalk network in my home/garage using
PhoneNet adaptors and regular phone hardware... I have a standard 4-wire

all four wires or just two? If it's just two, then is there any reason I
couldn't use the same wire for both the network and the phone line?

I took a look inside a phonenet-type adapter, it appears the network
uses the second (yellow/black) pair, with the first pair (red/green)
being passed through from one jack to the other with no internal
connection.
