PhoneNet

I'm planning to install a LocalTalk network in my home/garage using 
PhoneNet adaptors and regular phone hardware... I have a standard 4-wire 
phone line running out to the garage, the question is: does PhoneNet use 
all four wires or just two? If it's just two, then is there any reason I 
couldn't use the same wire for both the network and the phone line?
