i agree..the only way i got everything inventoried was to go the old tech
way..ie xerox of inverntory sheets
made 1 copy with like 30 lines to a page with number of item...ap2 type
...hardware type and 1/2 line for descrip
that was used as an index for each item on this next sheet or whatever you
think approprate the master inventory sheet
or index
then the actual item or inventory sheet to describe said apple 2 treasure...
which i typed up to have number...ap2 type hardware..or
software....manufacturer.....product name...year ....part for brief
descrip.....cost it was worth in 2005 more or less when i did these sheets
etc..stuff like that
then when sitting in front of the TV i'd grab a blank sheet and a
clipboard...put a number tag on the item in a box by the tv...(many hauled
rubbermaid boxes of scattered stuff) ..then write a descrip and model number
or whatever it was on to the index sheet..(in one binder) and then inventory
sheet in the other binder with my bad handwriting..and in about 3/4 of a
year later I managed to inventory everthing and put into various cabinets
with of course directions on inventory sheet where it was
almost had a religous revelation when i actually could go thru the
bsmt/attic/house and find stuff...wow!
i figure if i ever want to "computerize" this stuff..i'll simply scan the
works into pdf files and people can just suffer thru my bad handwriting....i
doubt the world will be that desperate for my efforts however..that ..this
will be needed for history....
it is very ugly..but it works..the only other thing is i had around 2500
indv descrip sheets and they take up 6 binders...a seperate index xerox is
in each binder for that stuff ..and a master index for the rest of around 50
pages or so for that..
if i really need to find something i just scan thru the master index to find
it ..takes me 3 min or more of page turning...but i can now find the stuff
scattered accross the house..and it sure beats having to organize it
further...if i need a further descrip like the rom version on a ramfast or
xebec card or whatever..i can then look it up proper in the other binders
anyway...that is the only way i got it done...it works..but is very very
ugly....a scan into pdf of this collection would also be very distrubing..in
that i have handwriting that looks like i'm 109 yrs old
anyway...if by some miracle..i do decide to put this in a database
someplace..i'll now sit in front of the TV and with said laptop simply type
the info in the data base 1 inventory sheet at a time...(not likely...but
maybe when they stick me in the 'home' in my elder years...)
it is amazing how complete a collection you can have when you actually find
a dongle for a card in 1 box..the docs in another box and the actual card in
a box in the attic....zowie
ah..here the rub though...disk collection..using MDC etc..i really don't
want to go there ....but sigh prob soon
my 2c worth for those more organized then myself...feel free to go right to
the database.. ..for those that are in more desperate need and just want to
FIND stuff you know is someplace..but can't remember...this stopgap measure
does work
(you also get the satisfaction of knowing you have learned the skills in
inventory managment of a 1955 era manager..paper cuts and all)
