Well, just to clarify things - you can't actually "telnet" without an
ethernet adapter. What it sounds like you want to do is to have a
direct serial connection using two terminal programs - one on the
apple //e and one on your Mac. There are numerous terminal programs
available for the //e - two good ones that I've used are MMGR and
Zlink. Zlink supports connections up to 57600kb/s and has Xmodem and
Ymodem transfer capabilities. MMGR can connect up to 19200kb/s (I
think) and includes Xmodem, Ymodem, & Zmodem capabilities.

Basically you need to run a terminal program on both machines (I don't
know Macs so I don't know a good terminal program there) and set them
up talking at the same baud rate (eg, 57600 or whatever), the same
number of data bits (usually 8), the same parity (usually "none"), the
same number of stop bits (usually "1"), and the same flow control (try
"hardware" first and if that doesn't work try "none" or "Xon/Xoff").
Once you have all setup on both machines, make sure they are connected
(ie. sometimes there is a "connect" button) and you should be able to
type keys on your Mac and see the letters appear on your //e screen
and vice versa.

You will then be able to transfer files or whatever it is your trying
to do.
