Are you sure that isn't #299 of batch #1?

I don't know.  There does appear to be a period between the 1
and the 299.  It's also interesting that Daniel Kottke recalls
that the production system serial numbers began with A2S1-0100.
If so, I guess that makes mine a pre-production machine.  I
remember that the Byte Shop did not have any Apples in stock
and I had to wait for it.  They wanted to sell me the Sol-20
that they had sitting there running its ASCII shooting game,
but I knew what I wanted and I was willing to wait for them
to get an AppleII in which took about 2 1/2 weeks.  Maybe this
is the first AppleII that made its way down to Florida.
