I hear you. In Australia, a graduate level teaching position is about
$44k, leading to a bit over 50k as you start your fifth year, with
plenty of incremental progression. "Leader" positions which I assume
are only available to those with either large amounts of postgraduate
education and/or experience run over 70k. School principle positions
are more that that. This basically runs the full gamut of the white-
collar middle class pay spectrum here.
Note that while this is certainly better for the individuals that join
the teaching profession, it doesn't imply that the system doesn't have
exactly the same flaws that yours does. Indeed from that perspective
they sound pretty similar.
