And, just for precision, the selling price of an item on eBay is set
by the *second highest bidder*, not the highest bidder.

Indeed, it's not just "one buyer" causing the inflation.

BTW, this thread is much less relevant to the comp.sys.apple2 group,
since I see practically no whining about prices here (maybe some mild
amusement about every month or two). Crossposting a thread like this
(with an emotional level of 8 on a scale of 10) seems more like a
troll than a post. Each old computer's market is quite different
in its dynamics, so, if necessary (?), it would have been better to
introduce this question *separately* to the various forums, rather
than crossposting.

As it is, I expect a small torrent of postings to csa2 that are almost
totally unrelated to the Apple II or its "marketplace".

To be fair, I've noticed a slightly higher level of maturity on the topic in c.s.a2, but the post was meant more as a retro-collector topic than a topic specific to any one machine or newsgroup.

While we're being fair ;-), I note that the Apple II community is quite
distinct from the C64 and Atari communities, with only occasional points
of contact that tend to be quite pragmatic--like 6502 interfacing or
mutually relevant documentation.

This is why I suggested separate posts to relevant newsgroups, since
most market-related discussion will not be relevant to other groups.
