There are a few linux distributions that have a usable subset of linux and
an X server on 2x 3.5" floppies.

Then there's that happy little freak called "Monkey Linux". I used to use
that distribution on a 386sx 25 (later had an fpu plugged in). The 486 had
4MB of RAM IIRC. Admittedly later on I found a RAM card, although the speed
penalty was enormous.
Anyway, Monkey was a fairly early loop linux. It could also run X11, and
Netsape 3 on my 386.
It could also run the XScreensavers faster than any other computer I've had.
Anyway my point is it can fit into a small footprint.

Don't take any of this as an argument that it should be done. More like that
it could be done.

I've been looking around and have come up with a couple of things.

* uClinux for the Blackfin uC. It uses the WDC 65816 compiler so that may be
something.

* Wings. An OS for SuperCPU'd C64. I actually came up with that by mistake.
I still had my searchbar set for Sourceforge.

The Blackfin port interests me. It's a shame I only have the evaluation
version of the WDC toolchain.
