Hello!
Today I've been busy working toward my goal of getting my apple to connect
to the rest of the world!
I chose for now to do the modem to modem connection because I need to get
data maybe 30m across the house. for this I built a nifty little line
thingy.
I used what I found here:
http://www.jagshouse.com/modem.html
as an inspiration. I used one of our Aussie phone connector to modular
adaptors. I managed to fit it inside the casing and add a plugpack adaptor
as neatly as my cutting skill allows.
After a lot of messing around and battling with a wasp I made a header to
male D25 connector for the second SSC. problem is it seems to only talk to
modems when the jumper block is set to "Terminal".
This is a little bit of an issue. Any ideas?
At least I can play nice little dialtone tunes.
Next step is to find a second working modem. I have tried maybe 6 serial
modems I dug up and only one will play with me.
It's probably something that most people have done before but I'm kind of
excited.
If I can get this PC to talk to it via serial modems the next step is to get
the linux winmodem drivers working again and see what I can do.
I found a weird utility in the apt repository today that allows network
sharing of a serial port. Some part of me feels like that may be useful
somehow.
Tristan.
*good: Something that hopefully won't cause mass disaster.
