Oops, yes, upon re-reading the OP's post I now
see that he is working from real disks. Sorry.

That said, isn't there already a 40-track mod
of ADT somewhere?

I haven't seen one.. I would have been happy .. some of my original
imaged disks are now gone.. and the .dsk files I created are almost
useless now that the last 5 tracks are gone..

They aren't useless unless something critical is on the
last 5 tracks.

Your post sounded like these were disks of your own creation,
in which case it is very likely that much useful information
is in the lower 35 tracks.
