I feel relieved now.
More like the heatsink has the regulator on it :) I used an extra hole to
mount it. Free space in that powersupply could be measured in mm^2. It's
really hard finding anywhere to put something that isn't pushing on
anything else.
Still, I'm happy.

For anyone wanting to use an ATX supply on their Apple or whatever else
really there are some concerns I noted. Below is listed for those who don't
know. Ie people who didn't research properly like myself and found out the
hard way.

* It NEEDS a powerswitch. Otherwise plugging it in is dangerous and
unplugging it may well be hazardous to your hardware. This is because the
supply if left in its 'on' state discharges through the computer when
unplugged. The same may apply for transients when plugging in.

* Don't test it unless there is a load present. It will either wreck the
powersupply or at very least appear like there's a problem with the supply.

* Make absolutely sure it's discharged before going near it. I've always
practised this. Electricity is a harsh Mistress who when given a chance
will give you a good whipping.

* If you need to add -5v the regulator's back is _not_ earth. If you choose
to mount it on something make sure it is electrically isolated.

* If you don't have a 2x3 apple style power plug and have no way of getting
one you could always use the same type of 2x3 connector used for auxiliary
fans on ATX supplies. They have the same pin spacing. The only difference
is one corner is square when tapered is needed.

I hope this is a little use to the more half-assed of us.

Tristan.
