I offered to convert it to run on the //e if he had the source. He sent
it and, when I took a look, I found something so bloated and foreign to
the //e that I would have had to start from scratch.
Since 99% of the voluminous code is just managing the quirky
GUI interface, and the only end result is writing out a block
containing the partition table, it shouldn't be too hard to do
on a //e. But at the time, I recall having a hard time even
*finding* the structure and content of the partition table!
(I should try to find those files and see if I can figure it
out now...)
Maybe you can try again and successfully port it to the //e? :)
It's on my list--but not very near the top. ;-(
If you move it up the list, that would be nice :)
I was able to find a solution though... look a few lines down.
I've just ordered an IDE-to-CF adapter, too, so that may move it
up the list. ;-)

Okay folks....
So I received my 44pin IDE-to-CF adapter in the mail a few days ago on
Tuesday. I went to Staples to get a 256MB CF card (I called them up and
verified they had it in stock, actually 2 of them in stock). When I got
there, they said they do not have any 256MB CF cards, and the smallest one
they have is a 512MB CF card. Leave it to the bumbling idiots there to
pass me bad information! Anyway, the guy at Staples said they have a sale
this week for a 1GB CF card for $19.98 (coincidentally, that is the same
price as the 256MB CF card). So, I bought that instead.
I got home and slapped the 1GB CF card into my nice new 44pin IDE-to-CF
adapter, and also attached my 44pin IDE-to-40pin IDE adapter to the end so
I can connect it to my desktop PC. The computer recognized the 1GB CF
Card and windows xp found it as well (as a hard drive).
I then fired up CiderPress and used the Volume Copier option for the
physical device. I selected my backed-up Focus Drive image file
"focusdrive.po" that I made before my dhaa-2270 drive went dead, and
choose to overwrite the ms-dos partition on the 1GB CF card. CiderPress
gave me a message about the number of blocks of the image file not
matching the physical drive (image file is 164MB and physical drive is
1GB). I click okay, and selected to overwrite. The copying actually went
by pretty quick and smooth.
To test what I just did, I selected to open a Volume, and choose the 1GB
CF card physical drive. CiderPress recognized it as a Focus Drive and it
looks good so far.
Now the moment of truth:
I took the 1GB CF card out of my desktop PC and attached it to the Focus
Card (using the 44pin IDE-to-CF adapter) and put the card back in slot 7
of my platinum Apple IIe.
I turned on my IIe and bam!!!! ProDOS loaded, the clock driver loaded,
the ZipChip hard drive utility loaded, etc... everything was working
exactly as it should on the Focus Drive :) The entire "hard drive" was
perfectly in-tact, even some deleted files that I noticed from CiderPress,
and CopyII+ found them as well.
So what I suspect happened originally is something went bad on the
physical dhaa-2270 ibm drive. For a moment, in the beginning, I thought
maybe the Focus Card itself went bad, but it did not really cross my mind.
The actual data on the drive, including the mbr and partition table info
were still in-tact and CiderPress captured it perfectly!
The only 'down side' in my particular situation is that about 860MB on the
1GB CF card goes to waste in my IIe. I suppose it is okay... 170MB is
still plenty for a IIe hard drive.
The ability to partition a Focus Drive (either using CiderPress, or in a
real IIe) would be very nice, but for right now, I am happy :)
Using a CF card on the Focus Card is pretty nice! As others have
recommended it in c.s.a2, I recommend it as well :)
