Hi Oliver,
Thanks for the lengthly reply.  I have Identified mine to be a rom3
board.  I was just wondering if anything else was changed hardware wise
to the sound circuitry.  It seems to be identical and someone must have
plugged something into the headphone jack and broke some internal pcb
paths (kids maybe? it came from a primary school, who knows what they
did when no one was looking)
