Yes - when fitting a US motherboard to an euro chassis the existing
speaker cable will be way to short. I solved this problem by using the
speaker from a spare IIGS rather than soldering.

I had no problems there, but the keyboard cable on the platinum chassis
is quite long, it might not be in pre-platinum machines.
I did this change myself to my 'production' IIe so I could get back
slot 3 and also drive RGB at 60Hz rather than 50. With RGB equipped
RamWorks and a monitor capable of both RGB and composite outputs, you
really can have the best of both worlds.
