Do you at least have the DB-25 connector for the SSC? It is a short
rainbow-colored ribbon cable which fits on the pin connector on the
rear-side of the SSC board. If you don't have this, you can also make
one, with enough time and, uh, frustration. I've done it. Though it
wasn't very fun. (of course, this is coming from someone with very
minimal hardware assembly skills, so take it with a grain of salt) I
can dig up the pin mapping I used if you are stuck.

If you DO have the SSC's DB-25 connector, then you'll need a DB-25 /
DB-9 adapter/cable and a usb-to-serial dongle for the mac, like you
said. Usually these come with a decent length of usb cable and you can
get away with using a simple adapter on the apple // end (or gender
changer, whatever is necessary to fit the square peg into the round
hole. ;-)

Just take it slow and be careful if you have to rotate the terminal
block on the ssc card -- you don't want to break that thing (but if you
do, it's not an IC -- so you can make a replacement with a spare ic
socket, some wire, and solder if necessary)

Best of luck to you!
