a disk image and wants to make it available *now* for a shorter time
only, then it would seem that the Google Group solution has the
advantage. However, Bill's ftp server could be considered a longer-term
storage repository (with possible mirrors being made).
The only possible drawback that I see will Bill's ftp site is that
people will start uploading disk images that can be found elsewhere and
needlessly clogg up Bill's site. When that happens over a period of
time, Bill's site will potentially be as hard to search as asimov and
co. Unless of course Bill is especially gifted in disk image
organisation. :-)
I reckon that as long as people do not abuse the priveledges, I think
both solutions could work quite well together. I mean, there is nothing
stopping you from uploading a disk image to both repositories to gain
the benefits of both.
