My II+ could only display lower case on the screen when the 80 column card was on. Think Appleworks, Apple Writer II, Terminal programs for getting into a BBS... The Mod was great for those types of things.
Caveate: you had no way to ENTER lower case characters from the keyboard. Since I did not have the shift key mod, I recall several of the programs I used regularly had an Open-Apple command that toggled upper and lower case entry from the normal II+ keyboard.
