My ROM3 is acting flakey lately. Turn on the hard drive, wait (20),
turn on the computer. It will POST and then either before the GSOS
screen or the progress bar begins and at some random point, the
computer bonks out. I turn it off and back on in 1-2 seconds and it
boots up completely, most of the time. It will not warm boot. I have
to turn off the hard disk and start over.
The machine boots fine with a 3 1/2. It sure seems to me to be a hard
drive issue. I have switched out SCSI cards and the same thing
happens. But once it does boot up all the way, it is solid and works
fine.
I tried to use the Salvation Defrag program. It does not seem to work
that well, particularly if the drive is nearly full.
I just did a wipe and clean install. All 7 partitions verify with no
problems. It is now copying from my backup drive.
I suppose it is time for one of those compact flash drives. What da ya
think, Henry?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Robert
