Let me ask you this, did you try a different set of simms, and was this a card that I set-up, or one that was bought without simms and setup by the purchaser? The faster the machine goes, the faster the DRAMs need to be.
This statement (or supposition) is not accurate.Accelerators do not speed up RAM, or override the the bus timing frequency. They are caching engines only. System RAM is either accessed at 2.8MHz, or 1MHz depending on what mode the GS is in.
Performance-wise, every 1MB SIMM ever manufactured would certainly exceed the requirements for maximum GS access speed. The RAM would have to be bad, or the wrong RAS/CAS type for there to be a problem, assuming the card meets Apple specifications.
That said - I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having a problem with the performance of Bill's card. I've heard critique of it's design, but not in it's actual application until now.
Then again, few people are pushing the envelope of acceleration like Paul is. Most people are content to get anywhere from 9-12.5MHz out of their accelerators and leave it at that.
So maybe everyone can agree the RAM4GS is good enough for most people, but not optimal for tweakers and their bleeding edge performance machines.
Case closed.
