My New (Mac) Apple IIe

Part 1 - What I found

What a nice day it turned out to be here in Raleigh, NC. I walked into
a salvation army store this afternoon and found a Mac LC II sitting on
a table, plugged in and running with the matching Apple 12" RGB monitor
. Price was $20. Off to the side was a new-in-box Apple Extended
Keyboard II for $1. Needless to say, I bought it. Finally, a home for
the new-in-box Apple IIe card I got off eBay about 3 years ago.

I opened up the LC II case this evening and I was really impressed.
For a computer that has 1991 on the motherboard, the machine is in
perfect condition. Even the built-in fan on the inside of the case had
absolutely NO dust on it. I wonder where it was before the salvation
army got it...

Internally, it's running System 7.1, 40MB HD and 4MB RAM. For $40,
I'll go to Memory Giant and max it out to 10MB. I think I'll try and
upgrade the HD to something a little bigger if I can find something
reasonable. The Apple LC II tech specs says the computer shipped with
either a 40 or 80 MB HD. I'll have to ask around, probably on the
low-end-mac list to find out how big a drive I can put in there.

So it looks like this will be my new Apple IIe machine for a while.

I also ordered the Call APPLE magazine DVD set the other day.. Can't
wait to get that. If my instincts are correct, there's LOTS of good
info in there. Next I need to save my spare change for the Nibble
collection.

Is anyone else here using an old Mac with a //e card? I'm going to
have to brush up on how I can get the Mac to talk to my windows machine
- right now I've got it set up downstairs next to my wireless XP
laptop.

Cheers,
// CHRIS
