Yes, I remember thinking "that's a neat case" when I saw the ads,
but when I actually saw one inside, there was pretty much no space.
And the spaces for the parts were just barely enough, so if you
wanted to scrap the III and use the nice looking case for something
else, you couldn't because it really was way too specific to the
III.  You could take an Apple II case, even a IIGS case, and put
something else in there, without having to worry about much beyond
basic dimensions.  But if you wanted to use the III case, you had
to start from scratch in order to fit anything in.
