I always release under GPL, unless there's some reason not to. GPL 
doesn't preclude profit. I'm _glad_ if someone can make money with code 
to which I've contributed. GPL merely ensures that (distributed) 
improvements see the light of day, too.

The biggest problem I see with public domain is that there's no way to 
enforce a "no warranty" policy.
