It's been a while since I took one off, but IIRC they are simple
mechanical clips. I think I recall that you need to squeeze them
together (to make their ends smaller) as you remove the board.
Also, this new II+ is not working - lo-res-ish sort of garbage on
appears on the screen, and there is no beep. My first thought was this
was could be due to a faulty ROM or CPU, but these are both OK, so I'm
not sure what the problem is. Not reseting for some reason? I suppose
I'll have to try and check the reset signal - I bought a logic probe
for the purpose, but since I only collected this last night, I haven't
had a chance to starting really working on it other than a bit of chip
subsitution first. I'm thinking that the lack of beep etc means it's
failing to early to be a RAM problem. Any thoughts on where I should
be checking?
Not necessarily--operating RAM is required to "beep".
It is certainly not completing the RESET initialization, since that
would set the text mode, clear the screen, print the "banner", and beep.
