Thanks David. I'm familiar with PALs and GALs only from being aware of
their existence, I've not actually used them myself - my electronics
tinkering skipped programmable logic and went to microcontrollers
instead.

It's interesting that Apple II hardware generally used PALs and later
GALs, which I suppose indicates the production quantities were too
small to justify HAL pricing.
