Not sure what you mean by the colors not working. Are they slightly off
(i.e. whites looking yellowish, blues a little purple) or completely wrong?

>has anyone gotten an 18 or 19 inch vga monitor to work off there gs??

Not without (a very uncommon) VGA card called the Second Sight.
I've connected up to my 22" monitor using one, but it's hardly worth-
while since its not a direct video signal from the IIGS, it is more a case
of video emulation using 640x400 VGA (and incredibly poor emulation
at that--software emulators on my PC run circles around it).

Your next best bet is finding an old VGA monitor that is compatible
with the Apple IIGS's video sync rate (15 kHz). I have three 14" VGA
monitors which work: NEC Multisync 3D, Amiga 1080, Sony CPD-1302.
There's a couple of other brands and models which will also work.
