Gack! You've ruined the patina! Now it's worthless! :-)

(For those not familiar with the antiques business, the "patina" is
the stuff on the surface that makes old things look old. The better
the patina, the more valuable the antique - usually. Excessive
cleaning and refinishing of antiques is usually bad for their value.)

My father collected antique radios, and the patina is getting to be a
big deal - collectors will pay a lot more for things in "original"
condition. Before too long, this is going to be an issue for antique
computers also, I'm sure.
