Yes, that would be the ticket.  It would need something like a jog-dial
and an lcd to display the current image name.  Otherwise you could
accomplish something cheaper and easier with a keypad to enter the
desired image # and numerical display -- and ditch the alpha display +
jog user interface altogether.  Seems the SVD concept is close --
wouldn't need the PIC device to send data to it since it could then be
self-contained.

(heh... a funny thing for the totally insane among us would require a
1st or 2nd gen ipod using linux and... uhm... some extensive
modifications.  But since the disk ][ sent one bit over at a time
anything's possible with a headphone jack, right?  okay, relax mr.
mahon... I'm not being 100% serious about using a hacked up ipod ;-)
