Turn the question around. Why should we set them back with 20-year-old
technology? Even Windows 95 would be cruel, with its sub-par memory
protection. I can't believe Bill Gates was slamming Google about this
project in the press.

Michael is on the money in his post above. Modern computer usage is
about connectivity, and even the IIGS is not where it needs to be for
modern adoption. (Not to belittle the great TCP work that's been done
for it.)
