This is a great question, but I'd like to follow it up with "Does
Applewin have casette port support at the moment or will it in the near
future?"

It might be an interesting thing to use a headphone cable as a link
cable between a laptop and an apple //e -- only letting the emulation
layer simplify things so you're going from an apple to an apple.

As for your language card question, I'm afraid I only spent my
childhood in front of an enhanced //e so I'm not too knowledgable about
it.  As an alternative, do you have access to a super serial card?  If
so, you could use the ADT program instead which sends all the necessary
programming to the apple directly, so no need for a terminal program or
anything.
