The PC Transporter was more than just a disk controller. It was basically a
complete 8086-compatible system (with CGA emulated in either composite or
analog RGB video) on a card that fit in an Apple II expansion slot. Its
modern utility is about the same as that of an IBM PC or PC/XT (IOW, not
much), but treating it as just another floppy controller is doing it a
disservice.
(ISTR its memory (up to 768K) was also available to Apple II software when
it wasn't booted up.)
