Re: Laptop //c
Well, I won the eMate on eBay. (Sounds like I'm speaking pig latin. ;-)
That cost around $32, a new battery pack will put me back another $13,
and I think I can get an AC adaptor for less than $5 at the thrift
store, so I'm doing pretty good at keeping the price under $100. Found
a few of the manuals for it online, as well as a couple of hacks - one
for the battery pack and one to increase cpu speed. Not sure if I'll
need the second one, but it's handy to know.
Sent a few emails back and forth with the foremost authority on Newton
OS. He never heard of Two in Hand, and thinks that the eMate will be
too slow to emulate the //c. We'll see.
I might want to sail into uncharted waters with the memory. The Service
Manual says the memory can be expanded to 16 meg, but I'd think that
with current flash technology, that could be upped even further.
Granted, software converted over to Newton OS is considerably smaller,
but the more I can get this thing to do, the better.
I'll post updates as things progress.
