I just checked ebay and froogle and all I came up with was the EPM70xx
series (which would work but only with an "S" designation.)  Those are
5v only chips as well so the regulator on the 8 bit baby wouldn't be
necessary.  Check the data sheets first before you order so you
specifically know the differences between this CPLD and the 3000A
family.

You also might want to poke around the Altera site and see if you can
order product samples - either directly from them or from a partnered
distributor.
