Re: IIGS mass storage ideas
Nick,
Hmmm.
OK, let's preface this with the fact that I haven't seen either of
these cards in person, and that I have NO personal experience with
either one of them either. And with that caveat...
I myself am on the list for a CFFA, and I'll probably get two. I
personally think the board looks like a neater design, and that the
compact flash card holder doesn't look tacked-on.
I also like how I can review the CFFA forum and see how the card has
evolved and had its problems solved over time. This last run includes
changes to accomodate larger cards, for example.
But with that said, I've not heard of any problems with the MicroDrive
controller. It comes from a company that designed a number of cards
that worked well, and it is being sold and supported by GSE-Reactive, a
good company with good products. I have their 4-meg GS ram card, and it
works great, and is a marvel of engineering.
If the CFFA card didn't exist, I wouldn't hesitate to get a MicroDrive
controller.
These opinions are subject to change if anyone can point out some facts
that indicate one is superior to the other, such as benchmark tests or
something.
As for "ghosting" one Vulcan drive to a compact flash, well, you got me
there. I would try using Copy II Plus or something, but I'm sure
someone will chime in and say why that wouldn't work.
