To take advantage of its 1.44 MB capacity and MFM compatibility (the
potential to read Windows/DOS floppies; not sure about 8-bit software that
did however) your only option is the "Apple II 3.5 Disk Controller Card".
It is also backwards compatible as a standard 800K drive, meaning it
can be plugged in through a VTech "Universal Disk Controller" card or
in a limited fashion, using an AE PC-Transporter in Apple II mode.
You can use a common off the shelf 1.44 MB PC floppy drive if you
have a SHH Systemes "Blue Disk" card, though keep in mind it cannot
access GCR 400/800K floppies. On the other hand, it's the only card
you can still purchase today.
