The Monitor IIc would be useable as a temporary display, though at
some point you'll want an AppleColor RGB (or compatible, such as the
Amiga 1080, NEC MultiSync 3D, etc).

Just be sure to set the Control Panel Display setting to 'Monochrome'
so graphics appear in greyscale rather than patterned dots--this works
for non-GS graphic modes as well (which is a nice plus over your IIc).
You can plug directly into your TV/VCR as well for color but GS-specific
graphics will look awful to put it lightly. An analog RGB display is a
necessity on the Apple IIgs, not a luxury.

Yes, it uses the same D-19 plug connector and fully compatible (the
Control Panel Slots settings should be left at the default "Your Card"
for Slot 6). The only functional difference is there's no daisy-chain
port on the Disk IIc so it must come last in the chain.
