Re: Apple ][+ keyboard parts help

Since top-posting seems to be the rule in this thread...

The connector is an IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector)
that can be pretty easily replaced, as long as you have an
extra half-inch or so in cable length. (It's not a good idea
to put a new IDC connector in the same spot an old one was.)

If you're handy, this is a ten minute job. Use an old socket
on the plug to prevent bending or breaking pins when firmly
squeezing it on.

I can give that a check, but I did plug it back in and nothing worked, when it did before the accident.

Not all of the pins in the keyboard ribbon cable are actually used.
Check with the pin out of the connector to be sure the broken pin is indeed needed.

Well I actually busted the ribbon cable accidently (broke one of the pins), was thinking of trying to solder it back on, but a new one would be easier (laziness is being factored in). But before I did break this, I did have several keys that failed. I did some cleaning and constant pressing and was able to revive some of them. But there are a few that just wont work.

Well I finally have the time to go through my collection and try to get the tiny problems resolved on my Apples. At the moment I have an Apple ][+ that has a few bad key switches. It also has a bad ribbon cable that run from the encoder board to the motherboard.

The symptom of a bad ribbon cable could be faulty keyboard
operation. Is the "bad keyswitch" symptom that nothing
happens, or does it just produce an incorrect keycode?
