Hi,
I did this modification some time ago to my IIe (I'm in Australia, but
I believe
the machines are identical to the European machines). There may be some
slight
differences in board layout between platinum IIe and beige IIe
motherboards.
Everything works as it should. The only issues encountered were:
there's no
character ROM switch on a US motherboard so that switch is
disconnected. The
cable from the internal speaker was not long enough to reach the
connector on
the motherboard. Rather than mess about with soldering, I got around
this by
using the speaker from a slightly dead IIGS I had lying around - these
have much longer speaker cables :)
It does offer a few advantages - notably the RGB card support you're
after, and
also the relocation of the AUX slot offers slightly more expandability
(I now
put my Transwarp in slot 3, gaining a slot back). Also, every edition
of the
RamWorks and similar boards will now fit just fine - normally for a
Euro IIe
you need to find the RamWorks III.
Good luck with the RGB video mod - I have an RGB daughtercard on my
RamWorks
which provides the same signals as the card you have, which I've used
with some
success. What I'd really like to find is the ColorLink option card - a
better
option than the one I use now.
Cheers,
Matt
