apple 2e LC card - prodos hd partitons

Hi, y'all!

    This is an attempt to restart a thread started in June of 2004 that
morphed into a thread with the title "The Lamp".

    I was able to create a 44MB SyQuest cartridge with two 21MB ProDOS
partitions.  This cart will boot a IIe equipped a SCSI card and a 44MB
SyQuest SCSI drive.  However, an LC III running OS 7.5 refuses to
recognize the cart and insists on formatting the cart.  Here's where it
gets weird.  By running FWB Hard Disk Tools I was able to temporarily
mount the two ProDOS partitions.  But the IIe card won't recognize the
mounted partitions.  But by using FWB HDT to unmount the two PD
partitions and then using Silverlining Lite to mount them, THEN the IIe
card will recognize and be able to use the two ProDOS partitions.

    More weirdness.  I have a 135MB SyQuest cart with four 32MB
partitions.  A 520c Powerbook running 7.6 will mount all four
partitions as soon as the cart is inserted into a SyQuest drive.  But
if I insert the same cart into a SyQuest connected to the LC III
mentioned above, I get the same problem of the LC not recognizing the
cart.  But the SyQuest 135MB drive actually ejects the cart, something
the SyQuest 44MB drive won't do.  So, no playing games with the 135MB
cart to get its partitions mounted, as with the 44MB cart, because I
can't get the cart to stay in the drive.

    I'm going to be experimenting with more kinds of SCSI drives with
the LC III + IIe card to see if I can figure out what's going on.  But
I thought I'd mention what I've experienced so far in the event someone
in the group can point out where I may be doing something wrong.
