Hi,
I have Word Perfect wordprocessor files that were saved on my Mac
Performa 475 in ProDOS format. I would like to open them on my IIGS
into AppleWorks 5.0 but I understand that I will have to run a program
called Unforkit to make this happen.

Where can I get Unforkit and what are the steps I would need to do to
run it. Does it run on the Mac or the GS?
Thanks, Mike

It's an Applesoft program that runs under ProDOS.

Look on ground, or check the A2 FAQs.

A few "features" of UNFORKIT

- It quite often self-destructs, so keep a spare copy
- It can cause untold damage to important files, so I would
recommend making a Prodos boot disk with unforkit and whatever
files you are working on and disconnect any other volumes on
the IIgs just to be safe. (lesson learned the hard way)

I've always LOAD it from my SCSI disk, then set the prefix
to the floppy on which the forked files reside, then RUN.
Nothing is at risk then but the floppy...

UNFORKIT works reasonably well, but does not return the
resource forks to the available space on the disk.
