Re: Question about upgrading Apple IIe

To make it crystal clear: You *always* need a complete language set of
the KEYBOARD and VIDEO ROMs! Only then you get the character displayed
you actually press on the keyboard!

To be on the safe side you should use these ROMs (I use all of these in
my PAL and NTSC-mainboards (yes, you can install these into a US-board,
too, but the VIDEO ROM needs an adapter):

The monitor ROMs (sometimes the "-A" is missing - these should be
identical):

342-0303-A //e (enhanced) EF ROM
342-0304-A //e (enhanced) CD ROM

The German "KEYBOARD ROM":

342-0372-A //e (enhanced) KB ROM deutsch/usa

I don't know what happens if you mix the set - that is if you use the
341-0151-A (German/US KEYBOARD ROM) in combination with the enhanced
ROMs above and the VIDEO ROM below!

Finally the German/US character generator ROM (also called "VIDEO
ROM"):

342-0275-A //c, //e (enhanced) Char Gen deutsch

If you use the 341-0265-A instead you'll lose the German characters as
its only half the size and only contains the US characters!

I can confirm, however, that Bill Garber has a working ROM image of the
342-0275-A ;-)
