    What significance was the name "Turbo-28"? I've heard of it being used in
the firmware on prototype ROM 3 boards, replacing the name "Apple IIgs" on
the startup screen.

    I always thought it referred to a IIgs with intergrated ZipGS/ZipChipGS
broken out on the main board using a 28 MHz for a 7 MHz clock speed. 
It'd make sense since they did this with the Apple IIc Plus.
