Re: Why still using Apple II?

You are welcome to your opinion. But I am skeptical about AppleC
producing a Windows capable machine. OS X may not be the OS of choice on
new Macs :-( I also worry about reliability and heat, but I assume Apple
engineers have found a way to keep 3GHz+ cpus running without fans. At
least current hi-iend G5's use liquid cooling (IIRC).

Sadly, I think this is all the change is about, ie Windows OS. I wonder how much 'compensation' MS will pay Apple for this change? IMHO, MS is beginning to worry about the OSS movement which is causing them market shares globally.

I will soon order my last iBook while I can still get an IBM cpu core.
Only time will tell if the Intel cpu is durable.

The Intel cpu has already proven itself as durable. I have never had a cpu fail from heat although I have had other Intel chip sets die.

Still, heat is certainly an issue. It will always be so no matter who provides the chips. Perhaps the problem is partly due to the basic computer design, lack of air flow will cause problems. As an example, a server I use has ran for months without the cpu fan, only the heat sink and a decent size fan, strategically placed to keep it (the whole system) cool. Of course this is only a 2.8 ghz system.

May Linux be with you!

Hear, hear!
