IIgs control panel : control-openapple-escape. Maybe I am calling it by the wrong name. It's been a long time since I used IIgs. You can get there without booting. turn on computer. press control-reset. get to * or ] prompt, control-apple-escape. There you can modify slot config, ramdisk, etc. I don't know what alternate display mode is, but it came up in a recent thread on this newsgroup. Rich
