I have done something similar to this, a long time ago in a galaxy far,
far away (OK, it's a 5 hour drive...). Transferred files between my GS
in my room and my brother's GS in his room. (Hypercard stack that I
downloaded from a BBS that was too large to fit on a floppy.)

I used Spectrum on my GS and my brother had ProTerm. I remember on
ProTerm it was just a matter of setting up the 'unattended' mode. Then
on my GS I set it up to ignore the fact that it couldn't detect a
carrier signal, typed ATD, went up to my brother's GS, hit return for
the answer button that was up and was able to go back down to my GS and
run a ProTerm unattended session from there and transfer files back and
forth. Was careful about how I routed the phone line and got a good
solid 33,600 transfer rate between the two GSes.

It's been far too long to remember the specific AT commands I used, but
with a list that your modem supports, I could probably figure it out.
